An Abused Life Is Simply A Life Without Purpose.___________________________________________________"Don't store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in Heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be."Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)___________________________________________________Did your mother ever grace the family's closets with handfuls of those slippery, tiny white spheres called mothballs? If she did, that unforgettable odor will probably stay with you for the rest of your life, an aromatic reminder that those items we hold dear will deteriorate easily. You may also have passed an old auto junkyard or two in your lifetime, where the frames of once-useful cars are being corroded by rust. Moths and rust are simple facts of life - inevitable hazards of placing all our valuables within this dying world. The person to whom Jesus is referring in Matthew 6 is the person who lives without a purpose. Perhaps their life is filled with a great number of temporary things, but they accomplish nothing when it comes to an eternal return. Since everything around us is one day going to vanish, isn't it foolish to live just for the here-and-now? We could term this shortsighted existence "life abuse" - misusing one's life for vain and temporal desires. We have a choice to make every time our eyes look upon the next sunrise. Either we can use the day to make something out of the life God has so graciously given us, or we can squander our hours on fleeting pleasures and self-centered aimlessness, our time rusting away like the body of an old, discarded automobile. God's grace is available to us when we come to Him and offer ourselves as living sacrifices. That needs to be our initial step. As we declare God the final authority in our life, we must continue to do as He has commanded us to ensure that our life is full and purposeful, both for us and for those around us. We must live our lives with an eternal purpose and perspective.Daily ConfessionFather, I thank You for giving me the gift of life. I thank You for giving me the grace I need to make each day worthwhile and full of purpose.

  • You are so right, we have choices in life and we would hope that along the road of life that we travel, that we will try our best to make the right choices, for the right reasons, not because he or she is doing it, but because that's whats in our hearts and that is what god would want us to do. When you sit and waste your life away most of the time it is a person with many talents that could be putting them to good use. I pray that peole start seeing in themselves, what jesus sees in them and has stored in them.....
